Florida to launch campaign to attract European nudists

If a new plan works, thousands of European nudists will come to the Tampa Bay area next summer.

If a new plan works, thousands of European nudists will come to the Tampa Bay area next summer.

Pasco County commissioners approved Tuesday spending nearly $4000 of tourist tax money to help promote Florida’s Pasco to an estimated 19 million nudists in Germany, France, The Netherlands, and the UK.

“They can come here and set up a base camp in Pasco and have all of Central Florida at their fingertips,” Paul Brenot of Pasco Area Naturists said.

Commissioners rejected a similar proposal in 2008, but this time it passed, four to one. Commissioner Jack Mariano cast the only no vote, saying the group did not meet a requirement for the tourist tax grant to promote a specific event.

The advertising is to begin early next year. They hope to bring more European nudists during July and August, traditionally slow times for the local tourism industry.

Tourist taxes have been collected from people staying at Pasco nudist resorts for 20 years, but this is the first time any of it will be used to promote clothing-optional vacations.
