In addition to the Phuket Sandbox, the government plans to open more areas in Thailand to vaccinated tourists in stages. Samui and the surrounding islands have already opened for vaccinated travelers with the Samui Plus campaign since July 15. More areas including Krabi and Phang Nga are expected to open up this month, promoting a 7+7 campaign.
The 7+7 campaign, also known as the Andaman Sandbox model is similar to the Phuket Sandbox and the Samui Plus model launched earlier this month. This scheme allows tourists who’ve already spent 7 days in Phuket, followed by 7 days in either Phang Nga or Krabi, to then visit the islands of Koh Yao and Koh Panyee, as well as the Khao Lak area. It’s understood that over 300 hospitality businesses in the region have already achieved the Safety & Health Administration accreditation.
Tourists will have to follow a specific route while in Phang Nga and their activities will be tracked for the duration of their mandatory 14-day stay using a tracker supplied by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society and the commercial sector – similar to that used in the Phuket Sandbox prior to Covid-19 tancament.
